Funny Listing on RentACoder.com: IOU Central Website Clone:

Submitted by Dan on Mon, 03/03/2008 - 20:58

Looks like someone is willing to pay up to US$500 to build a clone of IOUCentral.ca's website with "same everything but in a different color".

"Website Clone"

Looks like the user has no prior experience on the web site, is based in Taiwan and registered on the site on Feb 12th, 2008.

I just don't understand what he/she would plan to do with it. He/She doesn't seem to want it to be in another language or anything.

Bid away!!!

1. Ha!

I would never trust a random "lowest bidder" to create a web application that handles money. I like to live dangerously, but not that dangerously! Even if your contractors are trying to do a good job (really unlikely for $500), you're still stuck with whatever implementation techniques they use (kiss extensibility goodbye), and you still have to audit the code to make sure there are no (possibly very subtle) security problems. This guys best bet would be to spend a year learning modern web programming techniques, or hire a reputable firm.

Just my $0.02

2. 9 Bids!!!

Submitted by Dan on Mon, 03/10/2008 - 22:06.

Too bad Rent-A-Coder does closed auctions. There have been 9 bids so far made, but I can't view any details about them, they're only open to the auctioner and the respective coder. Ah well. Good luck imult!!!
